About

I live in the countryside but not too far from London, so I have the best of both worlds – a quiet place to write, and the big city when I want to indulge my fondness for museums and art galleries.

In my writing life, my historical novels came first, with the earliest published of them inspired by an encounter with a portrait of a Victorian adventuress who was once the most famous woman in the world after Queen Victoria. Her name was Lola Montez, and she packed enough drama and scandal into her short life for several lifetimes. Her story is told in Becoming Lola.

Two novels set in 19th century Paris and a Tudor adventure followed before I turned to crime with The Inspector de Silva Mysteries.

Writing a mystery series was something I’d wanted to do for many years, and in Sri Lanka, (old Ceylon) with its abundant natural charm and diversity, I found the setting I’d been looking for. The series is for readers who like their mysteries in the traditional style, with an engaging cast of characters, a colourful setting, a dash of humour, and plenty of twists and turns to keep the little grey cells in trim.

Best wishes, Harriet
